Start with everyday maintenance. A soft-bristle brush and a little warm water lifts most scuffs and surface dirt right after a wear, before it has a chance to set into the leather grain. Thirty seconds after you take them off beats a deep clean a month later.

For a proper deep clean on white leather, mix a mild soap or a dedicated leather-safe sneaker cleaner with warm water, work it in with a soft-bristle brush using small circular motions, then wipe the upper down with a clean, damp microfiber cloth. Let them air dry away from direct heat or sunlight - a radiator or a hair dryer will dry the leather out and crack it faster than normal wear ever would.

There is a short list of things to avoid entirely: no washing machine, no bleach, and no direct heat to speed up drying. Bleach in particular can yellow the midsole over time even though it looks like it is 'whitening' the leather in the moment - the opposite of what you want on a Triple White pair.

The rubber midsole and outsole need a slightly different approach. An eraser-style sneaker cleaner or a baking-soda paste applied with an old toothbrush lifts scuffs off the rubber without touching the leather above it. The same toothbrush works well in the perforated toe box and along the welt stitching, where dust and dirt collect and a bigger brush cannot reach.

On cadence: a quick wipe-down every three or four wears keeps scuffs from building up, and a full deep clean once a month is plenty even for a pair worn regularly. A couple of extra habits go a long way between cleans. Rotating between two pairs if you wear AF1s daily gives the leather and midsole foam time to recover their shape and stops moisture from building up inside the shoe. Slipping a shoe tree or even loosely balled paper into a damp pair overnight helps them dry evenly and keeps the toe box from creasing while wet - creases that set into wet leather are much harder to work out later than ones that form dry.

It also matters what you clean with, not just how. Stick to soft-bristle brushes rather than stiff wire ones, which can scratch the leather grain, and always spot-test a new cleaner on a small, less visible area of the upper - like the heel tab - before treating the whole shoe. A cleaner that is safe on canvas or suede is not automatically safe on full-grain leather, and the last thing a clean routine should do is trade scuffs for a discoloured patch.
